Thursday, March 20th: the spring equinox day is “Traditional Industry Day”, which has been set by Kyoto city to encourage people to experience and feel close to Kyoto’s traditional industries. They hold a variety of events around this day every year.
Hotel Intergate Kyoto Shijo Shinmachi will hold some events, setting 5 days including the Traditional Industry Day as “Traditional Industry WEEK”.

Display of “Kotori”
Simple and Modern lamps applying the structure and materials of Japanese umbrella illuminate the lounge.
You will feel the beauty of “Kyo-wagasa”: Kyoto’s traditional umbrella from the handmade lamps “Kotori” created by craftsmen of Japanese umbrella using the Japanese paper.

1. Craft Workshop of local “Kyo-koma”
From ancient times, Kyo-koma (spinning top) has been considered as a symbol of good luck associating with “smooth” and “well-rounded”. You can experience the craft of our original “local Kyo-koma” in the motif of “Koppori”: Maiko’s shoes.

In this event, you can enjoy a dance performance by Maiko wearing various items designated as traditional industrial products by Kyoto City in the lights of traditional Japanese candles.

You can experience the craft of mini Wagasa (Japanese traditional umbrella) and “Kotori”: a desktop lamp applying the structure and materials of Wagasa. Please enjoy not only the craft, but also studying about Wagasa.
