March 20th marks “Traditional Industries Day.” To honor the rich history and cultural heritage of Kyoto, the city has designated the vernal equinox as a day to celebrate and connect with its time-honored crafts, with a variety of events held around this date each year.
At Hotel Intergate Kyoto Shijo Shinmachi, we are delighted to host our own “Traditional Industry WEEK.” Join us for this special 10-day celebration as we showcase the exquisite craftsmanship and enduring traditions of Kyoto.

Nishijin Silk Thread Lampshade Display
The lounge will be beautifully decorated with lampshades crafted from the vibrant, multi-colored silk threads used in traditional Nishijin weaving.

1. Event: Maiko Performance Event -Experience Kyoto’s Traditional Culture-
This enchanting event invites you to witness the graceful dance of a Maiko under the gentle, flickering glow of traditional Japanese candles. Adorned in exquisite crafts designated as traditional industries of Kyoto, the Maiko brings to life a heritage passed down through generations. Guests can also enjoy the charming tradition of Ozashiki-asobi (parlor games) and capture the moment with a commemorative photo.

4. Experience Content: Nishijin-ori Textile Item Workshop / Cooperation: Soushi-tsuzure-en (Association for the Preservation of Tsuzure-ori Technique)
Experience the allure of Nishijin-ori textiles firsthand. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to see live demonstrations by certified traditional Nishijin-ori craftsmen and create your own lamp shade using the same vibrant, multi-colored silk threads used in authentic Nishijin weaving.

5. Event: Tea Ceremony Experience
Join us for a special opportunity to learn the history and etiquette of tea ceremony from a Tea Master of the Urasenke Tradition. After observing the traditional rituals and enjoying a selection of Omogashi (fresh seasonal sweets) and matcha, you will have the chance to whisk your own bowl of matcha and savor it with Higashi (dry sweets).
